OakWord has the following features:

• Full-screen editor with PC-like word wrap. Text is entered and changed using a full-screen editor that supports the following features:
  • User-set tabs
  • Global search and replace
  • Multiple line insertion and deletion
  • Move/copy
  • Underlining
  • Page numbering and page number placement
  • Unlimited heading and footing lines
  • Centered and right adjusted text
  • Copy text from other OakWord documents
  • Table of contents generator
  • Columnar math

  When the user is entering text and reaches the end of a line, a partial word is automatically "wrapped" to the next line. Automatic realignment of paragraphs is also performed when text is inserted or deleted.

  

• Spelling check with 78,000 word dictionary and readability index. The 78,000 word dictionary allows the user to check the spelling in a document. The misspelled word is shown in context, along with the closest dictionary match. User additions to the dictionary are also supported. A readability index reports on the minimum educational level necessary to understand the document content.

• "Substitute codes" and "stop codes" for entering values at print time. "Substitute codes" allow the user to define codes and assign values to them. When the document is printed, the value is automatically substituted for the code wherever it has been used in the document. Code values can be changed without editing the actual document. "Stop codes" are similar to substitution codes, except the operator is prompted at print time to enter the value to be substituted into the document.

• Print preview function. The print preview function shows the user exactly how the document will look when it is printed.

• Flexible printing options. Several options are available for printing:
  • Print proof or final copy
  • Single, double, or triple spaced output
  • Print a single document or a range of documents
  • Print an envelope or mailing label along with the document
  • Print from customer file by field content selection and sorted by zip code
  • Print Rolodex cards

• Merge data from database files. OakWord's data file interface allows the user to merge data from database files with OakWord documents and edit or print the results.

• Built-in customer file. A built-in customer name and address file can be used for correspondence, mailing lists, or databases. The customer file also has a number of fields which can be user-defined and accessed in OakWord documents by control codes.

• Ease of operation. OakWord has been designed to be easy to learn and use by the display station user, with a minimum of training required. The user documentation includes an 18-lesson tutorial.

• Multiple user support. OakWord may be used by any number of users concurrently.
